WEST COUNTRY DOG CLUB – 75th Anniversary Open Show

Held on: Monday 26th August 2019 Judge: Mr. Russell F. Jones (Quemerford)

Thank you to the Secretary and Committee for inviting me to Judge Border Collies and Smooth Collie Classes at the above show which was the 75th Anniversary show. The Border Collie Classes were kindly supported by West of England Border Collie Club. My stewards on the day were very efficient and kept the ring going throughout the day, so many thanks to them. All exhibits were well groomed and shown in a good clean condition which was much appreciated.  

BORDER COLLIES PD/B (2,0), 1 Mr. K. & Mrs. A. Lampier, Pencoppen Good Timin: An 11 mth old B&W Dog with nice markings. He is of a nice type and is well grown and mature for his age. He has a pleasing head with a good eye, nice length of neck, good front and top-line and nice angles to rear. Overall has the making of a good package. Pleased to award him BP.

2 Mr. K. & Mrs. A. Lampier, Pencoppen All Tim Love: An 11 mth old B&W Bitch that is litter sister to 1st. She is just so sweet, but not quite as mature as 1st on the day. That said I am convinced she will be the better one in the long run. A lovely well-balanced girl that is very feminine with a lovely out line. Just a little loose on the move at the moment.

PGD/B (1,0), 1 Mrs. M. Garland, Tonkory Royal, Sh.CM: A 2.6yr old B&W Dog that is well grown for his age but still needs to mature up. Time is on his side and he is or a pleasing type with a nice outline. He has a good head and eye, nice neck and shoulders and good angles. Nice bone and spring of rib, good back and strong rear end with good angles to rear with plenty of muscle. It was a shame that he was preoccupied with his kennel mate at the ring side. That said he did enough to take Res. BOB on the day.

OD/B (4,1Abs), 1 Mrs. M. Garland, Tonkory Doyal, JW. Sh.CM: A B&W Dog that is 7.5yrs of age and is of a very pleasing type with a good outline. He has a very masculine head that he shows off very well. Good length of neck and clean shoulders, good angles and good depth of rib cage with plenty of bone. Liked his spring or rib and top line which he kept on the move. Excellent backend with good angles and plenty of muscle, also free and steady on the move. I was pleased to award him BOB and to watch him take Grp 1 and later BV in Show. Very many congratulations, it really was his day.

2 Mr. K. & Mrs. A. Lampier, Tonkory I’m All Right Jack: A 6yr old B&W Dog of good type with nice outline that is nicely balanced. His teeth could be a little cleaner today. He has a fair length of neck, not quite the front of 1st, a deep chest and nice back, back end and angles. Moved out well.

3 Mr. K. & Mrs. A. Lampier, Tonkory Mark Time, (Ai): A 4yr old B&W Bitch that is a pretty bitch of a good type. She has a good out line and it was a pity that she came up against the dogs today. She is a very pleasing type with a nice head, pleasing neck, good front, chest and bone. Liked her back and back end and good coat. A little more time and maturity and she will be heading up the class. Pleased to award her Best Opp. Sex.

COLLIE SMOOTH PD/B (1,0), 1 Mrs. K.M, Mr. M.S., Mrs. C.J. & Mr. M.A Martin & Howard, Shandlmain Blu Chief: A 6mth old B/M Dog that is of a nice type with good out line. I liked his head piece for his age and his super neck, chest and good bone. Nice back and back end, good coat. A little more maturity but he is only youngster. Pleased to award him BP and BOB, he looked well in both groups. Thanks for bringing him.
